Catherine Mary Buckton 1827 – 1904 was the wife of Joseph Buckton, of Joseph Buckton & Co of Leeds. Born in Stoke Newington, London. They married in 1848.
She was a founder member of the Leeds Ladies Educational Association and of the Yorkshire School of Cookery. In 1873 she became the first woman to be elected to the Leeds School Board. She gave lectures to children and student teachers. Some of her lectures were published in book form in the late 19th Century Some titles were, Health in the House, Food and Home Cookery, Town and Window Gardening and Our Dwellings, Healthy and Unhealthy. Some of these books have recently been re published and are considered to be culturally important.
